The World’s Most Expensive Penthouses
Mumbai's Antilia Tower
As prices in the global super-luxury market climb ever skywards, a fascinating update on the world’s most expensive penthouses takes us on a tour of these ultra-exclusive properties starting with the Antilia Tower in Mumbai -- entirely owned and utilized as a personal residence by business magnate Mukesh Ambani and his family.
At an estimated $2 billion to construct, Antilia is considered the world’s second most expensive home after the Buckingham Palace.
The 400,000-square-foot property is located on Altamount Road, one of the world’s most highly-priced streets. Of the 27 floors, Ambani utilizes the top six as his residence. The others include guest suites, a salon, and ice cream parlor, a 50-person theater, a private mega-temple and garage for 168 cars.
Next is the penthouse at La Tour Odéon in Monaco, priced at $335,000,000.
The five-floor, 31,500 square feet residence, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls, sits atop a new 49-story tower along the Mediterranean, located in one of the most coveted vacation spots in the world.
Incredibly, a water slide on the rooftop descends down an entire story from the dance floor above into a private infinity edge pool.
Of course New York is a hot spot for super-penthouses, including the nation's most expensive at $238,000,000.
Purchased by Ken Griffin in January, the 24,000 square foot residence at 220 Central Park South is designed by the legendary Robert A.M. Stern, who's also responsible for a penthouse currently under construction in San Francisco (more on that below!)
Here's a rare tour of the building, which will have a private restaurant by chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten - quite an amenity!

A Hallway in the Penthouse at One Hyde Park

Another destination for international trophy home collectors is London, location of the world's fourth most expensive penthouse, valued at approximately $200,000,000.

Currently offered for rent at £150,000 per week (about $10 million per year), the penthouse at One Hyde Park comes with a 70-foot pool, pedicure room, theater and library, and is protected around the clock by guards trained by the Special Forces.

Among its design features are a 20 foot tall two-story Swarovski chandelier made out of the company's largest crystals, dining room walls of verre églomisé (gilded glass), and art work by Damien Hirst, Auguste Rodin, and René Magritte.

Ultra-Luxe Sales from Coast to Coast
The US ultra-luxury market has recently hit new highs, with six sales over $90 million taking place since July -- three in Florida and three in California.
Here is an overview of you will not find anywhere else. I hope you enjoy the tour!
PALM BEACH, FLORIDA
Drawn by low taxes, incredible scenery, and Florida's wonderful sunshine, Palm Beach has always been a magnet for the nation's wealthiest -- but never more so than in recent years, with buyers (mostly hedge fund managers and investors) now spending nine figures for the grandest Oceanside estates.
Sydell Miller's 'La Reverie' at 1415 South Ocean Boulevard
A new sales record is about to be set with the closing of hedge fund manager Steven Schonfeld's purchase of beauty-products mogul Sydell Miller's estate, known as La Reverie, for an amount rumored to be around $150 million.
La Follia at 1295 South Ocean Boulevard
This follows the sale of the property -- just a few houses to the north -- owned by legendary Broadway producer Terry Allen Kramer, for $105 million in July of this year.
La Follia Sold for approximately $105 Million
Kramer, who passed away in May, was known as the grande dame of Palm Beach society -- invitations to La Follia, her 37,516-square foot mansion, were among the most coveted of the fall social season.
The Breakfast Room at La Follia
The buyer's name has not been disclosed, but it's worth noting that the property directly neighbors the compound that hedge fund manager Ken Griffin has been amassing since 2012 -- spending an estimated $400 million to acquire ten lots!
Over Half a Billion in Real Estate within a Five Minute Walk
In fact, Griffin's most recent purchase was just last month -- paying $99.13 million for former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt Jr.'s house, which was originally designed by Peter Marino (as seen in Architectural Digest in 2017) for the late George Lindemann and his family.
Ken Griffin Purchased this Peter Marino Home for $99,130,000
All of these estates, located along South Ocean Boulevard in an area known as "Billionaire's Row," are within one mile south of the Mar-a-Lago Club.
The Most Valuable Real Estate in Palm Beach
From Approximately $40 Million to $200 Million +
Others with homes valued well over $40 million include San Francisco Giant's co-owner Charles B. Johnson ($42 million in 2013) former Goldman Sachs partner John Thornton ($77.5 million in 2008), real estate investor Jeff Greene ($67 million online valuation), and hedge fund manager Paul Tudor Jones II ($71.2 million in 2018).
Just a little further to the south you'll find the homes of Netscape founder James H. Clark (was asking $95 million last year) and musician Rod Stewart (the price of a legend's home? invaluable!)
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
California's ultra-luxury market has recently seen some record-breaking transactions, most notably the sale of two estates I told you about when they first appeared on the market a few years ago.

First, the famous 123-room, 56,000 square foot Spelling Manor in Holmby Hills sold for $119.75 million in June. Purchased by a foreign buyer, it's the highest price ever paid in California, which to date has seen seven private residences sell for nine figures.
